Our clinicians are highly skilled and dedicated to supporting your health at every stage of life. We foster a collaborative team environment to ensure your care is comprehensive, coordinated, and tailored to your individual needs.

We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of clinical care. Our team utilises up-to-date medical technology and equipment to support accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and preventative healthcare.

We offer a broad range of services, including:

Children's Health

At Strathalbyn Medical Clinic, we understand that your child’s health and wellbeing are your highest priority — and ours too. Our experienced GPs provide compassionate, comprehensive care for children from newborns through to adolescence, supporting families at every stage of development.

We focus on building long-term relationships with families, offering continuity of care in a friendly, welcoming environment where children feel safe and supported.

Routine Check-Ups
Regular health assessments to monitor your child’s growth, development, nutrition, and overall wellbeing.

Sick Visits
Diagnosis and treatment of common childhood illnesses, including colds, flu, ear infections, fevers, and gastroenteritis.

Chronic Condition Management
Ongoing care and monitoring for children with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, and eczema.

Childhood Immunisations

Routine childhood immunisations help protect children from preventable and potentially life-threatening diseases.

We provide immunisations in accordance with the National Immunisation Program, which outlines the vaccines recommended for all children in Australia. Some children who are at higher risk may require additional vaccines, and our GPs can provide individualised advice where needed.

Once your child’s immunisation has been administered, we will submit confirmation to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR). This record is accessible via Medicare online, usually within two weeks of vaccination.

Your child will first see the GP for their routine check-up, followed by our nursing team who will administer the vaccination.

If your child is not up to date with their vaccinations or has missed one or more scheduled doses, please book an appointment with a GP to discuss catch-up immunisation options.

For further information or clarification, please contact reception and leave a message for our nursing team. We will return your call as soon as possible.

To book your child’s immunisations, please call reception and advise which vaccines your child is due for (for example, the 4-year immunisations).

Whether it’s for routine check-ups, managing an illness, or addressing a specific health concern, our GPs are committed to supporting your child’s health and development at every stage.

Women's Health

The Medical Practitioners at Strathalbyn Medical Clinic are experienced in all aspects of women’s health. They place a strong emphasis on preventative medicine and early detection, recognising the important role regular health checks play in maintaining long-term wellbeing.

Routine women’s health checks are recommended to support the early detection and prevention of a range of medical conditions. These appointments provide an opportunity to address any current symptoms or concerns, while also reviewing important preventative health strategies tailored to your individual needs.

Our Women’s Health Services Include:

  • Cervical Screening Tests

  • Comprehensive Women’s Health Checks

  • Contraception advice and management, including insertion and removal of IUDs and Implanon

  • Menopause and perimenopause care

  • Family planning and preconception advice

  • Antenatal care, including shared care arrangements

We recommend a Women’s Health Check for all women over the age of 25, particularly those who are sexually active.

Regular health checks are strongly encouraged for women with a family history of breast, cervical, ovarian, or vaginal cancer, as early detection is key to improving health outcomes.

Our team is committed to providing respectful, confidential and supportive care at every stage of life.

Men's Health

We encourage men to attend regular check-ups with their usual GP, as preventative care plays a vital role in maintaining long-term health and reducing the risk of serious illness.

Screening tests are designed to detect potential health concerns early — often before symptoms develop. Your GP can advise which screening tests are appropriate for you based on your age, medical history, family history, and individual risk factors, as well as how frequently they should be performed.

Our Men’s Health Services Include:

Prostate Health
If you are experiencing urinary symptoms or have concerns regarding prostate health, speak with your GP about assessment and appropriate screening options.

Skin Checks
Regular skin examinations are important, particularly in Australia where skin cancer rates are high. Annual full-body skin checks are recommended, especially for those who work outdoors, have significant sun exposure, or have a personal history of skin cancer. If you notice any changes in moles or skin lesions, please book an appointment promptly.

Mental Health
If you are feeling persistently low, irritable, anxious, or have lost interest in activities you would normally enjoy, it is important to seek support. Our GPs provide confidential mental health assessments and management plans.

Bowel Cancer Screening
A faecal occult blood test (FOBT) is recommended every two years for people aged 50 and over, as part of routine bowel cancer screening.

Heart Health Checks
A Heart Health Check is recommended at least every two years for adults aged 45 years and over, or from 35 years for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Even if you feel well, regular health checks are essential for early detection and prevention. We encourage all men to prioritise their health and book routine appointments with their GP.

Chronic Condition Management (CCM)

Chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma and arthritis are common and often require ongoing care and monitoring. At Strathalbyn Medical Clinic, our GPs provide structured Chronic Condition Management (CCM) services to support patients in managing long-term health conditions effectively.

If you have a medical condition that has lasted, or is likely to last, longer than six months, your GP may recommend a Chronic Condition Management plan. These plans are designed to provide a coordinated, personalised approach to your care, tailored to your specific health needs and goals.

Under current Medicare guidelines, a chronic condition is defined as one that has been present for at least six months, or is expected to continue for six months or more. Your GP will assess your eligibility and determine whether a CCM plan is appropriate for you.

What a Chronic Condition Management Plan Includes:

  • A comprehensive assessment of your medical condition and overall health

  • Identification of your individual health goals

  • A structured management plan tailored to your needs

  • Coordination of care with relevant allied health providers, where appropriate

  • Advice on lifestyle strategies and self-management

Where clinically appropriate, your GP may refer you to allied health professionals such as physiotherapists, dietitians, podiatrists or exercise physiologists as part of your management plan.

Reviews and Ongoing Care

Regular reviews are an essential component of Chronic Condition Management. These review appointments allow you and your GP to:

  • Assess your progress towards agreed health goals

  • Monitor your condition and adjust treatment if required

  • Update referrals or management strategies

  • Ensure your care remains coordinated and effective

Reviews are typically conducted at regular intervals as determined by your GP and in accordance with Medicare requirements.

Effective management of chronic disease is a partnership between you and your healthcare team. Our goal is to provide proactive, coordinated care to help you maintain the best possible quality of life.

If you believe you may be eligible for a Chronic Condition Management plan, please book an appointment with your GP to discuss your individual needs.

Health Assessments

At Strathalbyn Medical Clinic, we provide a range of preventative health assessments designed to detect risk factors early, support informed decision-making, and promote long-term wellbeing.

Health assessments allow your GP to review your overall health, identify potential concerns before symptoms develop, and create a personalised plan tailored to your age, medical history, and risk profile.

45–49 Year Old Health Assessment

This Medicare-funded health assessment is available to patients aged 45–49 years who are at risk of developing a chronic disease.

The assessment focuses on:

  • Identifying risk factors for conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and kidney disease

  • Reviewing lifestyle factors

  • Preventative screening and early intervention strategies

Your GP will determine eligibility and assess whether you meet the criteria for this assessment.

75 Years and Over Health Assessment

This comprehensive assessment is Medicare-funded annually for patients aged 75 years and over.

It is designed to:

  • Support independence and quality of life

  • Review mobility, falls risk, memory and mood

  • Assess medication management

  • Identify support services if required

This assessment helps ensure coordinated and proactive care in later years.

Diabetes Risk Assessment & Testing

Diabetes screening is recommended for individuals who may be at increased risk, including those with:

Your GP may recommend testing if you:

  • Are aged 40 years and over (or younger with risk factors)

  • Have a family history of diabetes

  • Have overweight or obesity

  • Have high blood pressure or elevated cholesterol

  • Have a history of gestational diabetes

  • Are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander background

Assessment may include a validated diabetes risk tool and blood testing (fasting glucose and/or HbA1c). Early diagnosis is critical to reducing long-term complications.

Menopause Health Assessment

A Menopause Health Assessment provides a comprehensive review for women experiencing perimenopause or menopause symptoms.

This assessment may include:

  • Review of symptoms (such as hot flushes, sleep disturbance, mood changes)

  • Cardiovascular and bone health risk assessment

  • Discussion of hormonal and non-hormonal treatment options

  • Lifestyle strategies to support long-term health

There is no strict age eligibility — this assessment is suitable for women experiencing symptoms or seeking guidance during midlife hormonal changes.

Regular health assessments are an important part of preventative care — even if you feel well. Early identification of risk factors allows for timely intervention and improved long-term health outcomes.

To determine which health assessment is appropriate for you, please contact reception or book an appointment with your GP.

Heart Health Checks

Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of illness in Australia. A Heart Health Check at Strathalbyn Medical Clinic is designed to identify your individual risk of having a heart attack or stroke and to provide early intervention where needed.

This comprehensive assessment focuses on prevention and early detection, even if you are feeling well.

What Does a Heart Health Check Involve?

Your GP will assess your overall cardiovascular risk, which may include:

  • Blood pressure measurement

  • Cholesterol testing

  • Blood glucose testing

  • Review of smoking status

  • Weight and BMI assessment

  • Family history review

  • Lifestyle assessment (diet, exercise, alcohol intake)

  • Calculation of your absolute cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk score

Based on your results, your GP will provide personalised advice, which may include lifestyle modifications, further investigations, or medication if appropriate.

Regular Heart Health Checks are an important part of preventative healthcare. Early identification of risk factors can significantly reduce your likelihood of serious cardiovascular events.

If you are unsure whether you are due for a Heart Health Check, please contact reception or book an appointment with your GP.

Skin Checks

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, making regular skin examinations an important part of preventative healthcare. At Strathalbyn Medical Clinic, we provide comprehensive skin checks to assist with the early detection and management of skin cancers, including melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers.

Early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes.

Who Should Have a Skin Check?

Regular skin checks are particularly important if you:

  • Have fair skin or a history of significant sun exposure

  • Work outdoors

  • Have a personal or family history of skin cancer

  • Have multiple moles or unusual-looking moles

  • Have noticed any new or changing spots

In general, annual full-body skin checks are recommended for higher-risk individuals. Your GP can advise how often you should be examined based on your personal risk factors.

What to Expect During a Skin Check

A skin check may include:

  • A full-body examination of the skin

  • Assessment of moles and pigmented lesions

  • Use of dermatoscopy (a specialised magnifying device) where appropriate

  • Discussion of any concerning or changing lesions

If a suspicious lesion is identified, your GP will discuss management options, which may include monitoring, biopsy, or removal.

When to Book an Appointment

You should arrange an appointment if you notice:

  • A new mole or skin lesion

  • A mole that changes in size, shape, or colour

  • A sore that does not heal

  • A spot that bleeds, crusts, or becomes itchy

Regular skin checks, combined with sun protection measures, play an essential role in reducing the impact of skin cancer.

To book a skin check, please contact reception or make an appointment with your GP.

Minor Procedures

At Strathalbyn Medical Clinic, our GPs perform a range of minor procedures in a safe and professional clinical environment. These procedures are carried out with careful attention to patient comfort, safety, and appropriate follow-up care.

Minor procedures allow many conditions to be treated conveniently within the practice, reducing the need for referral where appropriate.

Procedures We Commonly Perform

Minor procedures may include:

  • Skin lesion removal (including moles, cysts and skin tags)

  • Skin biopsies

  • Treatment of suspicious skin lesions

  • Wound suturing and wound care

  • Incision and drainage of abscesses

  • Removal of ingrown toenails

  • Cryotherapy (freezing treatment for warts and sunspots)

  • Implanon insertion and removal

  • IUD insertion and removal

All procedures are performed following a thorough consultation and assessment to ensure suitability and discuss risks, benefits, and expected outcomes.

What to Expect

Prior to your procedure, your GP will:

  • Review your medical history

  • Explain the procedure and obtain informed consent

  • Discuss any preparation required

  • Outline potential risks and aftercare instructions

After the procedure, you will receive clear guidance regarding wound care, follow-up appointments, and when to seek further medical attention if required.

Cervical Screening

Cervical cancer is largely preventable. Early detection and appropriate treatment significantly improve outcomes, which is why regular cervical screening is so important.

At Strathalbyn Medical Clinic, we provide Cervical Screening Tests (CST) in line with the Australian National Cervical Screening Program.

What is the Cervical Screening Test?

The Cervical Screening Test (CST) replaced the Pap smear in Australia on 1 December 2017.

Unlike the previous Pap test, which looked for abnormal cervical cells, the CST tests for the presence of human papillomavirus (HPV) — the virus responsible for almost all cervical cancers. Because the new test is more accurate and sensitive, women with a normal result only need to screen every five years, compared with every two years under the previous Pap test program.

Who Should Have Cervical Screening?

Under the Australian National Cervical Screening Program:

  • Women and people with a cervix aged 25 to 74 years should have a Cervical Screening Test every five years.

  • If you have previously had Pap tests, you should have your first HPV Cervical Screening Test two years after your last Pap test.

  • If you have not had a test since December 2017, you may now be overdue.

Regular screening is recommended even if you feel well and have no symptoms.

Self-Collection Option

All eligible Australian women and people with a cervix can choose to collect their own screening sample under the supervision of a healthcare professional.

Self-collection involves using a simple swab to collect a vaginal sample in a private setting at the clinic. Clear instructions are provided, and the test is just as effective at detecting HPV as a clinician-collected sample.

Self-collection is not suitable if you are experiencing symptoms such as:

  • Unusual vaginal bleeding

  • Abnormal discharge

  • Pelvic pain

If you have symptoms, a GP examination is required.

We recommend discussing with your GP which screening option is most appropriate for you.

If you are unsure when your last cervical screening test was performed, you can contact the National Cervical Screening Register on 1800 627 701 for assistance with your screening history .

Regular cervical screening is one of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer. If you are due or overdue, we encourage you to book an appointment with your GP.

Mental Health

Good mental health is an essential part of overall wellbeing. At Strathalbyn Medical Clinic, our GPs provide compassionate, confidential support for patients experiencing mental health concerns at any stage of life.

Seeking help early can make a significant difference. Whether you are experiencing stress, anxiety, low mood, sleep difficulties, or more complex mental health challenges, our team is here to support you.

Mental Health Assessment

A Mental Health Assessment involves a comprehensive discussion with your GP about your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and overall wellbeing.

This assessment may include:

  • Discussion of current symptoms and concerns

  • Review of personal and family history

  • Identification of stressors or contributing factors

  • Assessment of risk and safety

  • Exploration of treatment and support options

This appointment provides an opportunity to better understand your situation and develop an appropriate management plan.

Mental Health Treatment Plan

A Mental Health Treatment Plan (MHTP) is available for patients diagnosed with a mental health condition.

The plan outlines:

  • Your treatment options

  • Support services available to you

  • Goals agreed upon by you and your GP

  • Referral to appropriate mental health professionals if required

Under Medicare, eligible patients can receive rebates for a number of sessions each calendar year with a psychologist, social worker, or occupational therapist following preparation of a Mental Health Treatment Plan.

Having a treatment plan can help you:

  • Access affordable specialist support

  • Feel more supported in your care

  • Take an active role in managing your mental health

If your GP recommends a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you will be booked for a longer consultation. This plan cannot be completed during a standard appointment or when multiple unrelated health concerns need to be addressed.

Ongoing Care & Reviews

Regular review appointments are important to monitor your progress, adjust treatment if required, and ensure you are receiving appropriate support.

Employment Medicals

Strathalbyn Medical Clinic provides pre-employment and occupational medical assessments to support both employees and employers in ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.

Employment medicals assess whether an individual is medically fit to perform the inherent requirements of a role. These assessments are conducted in a professional and confidential manner.

Pre-Employment Medical Assessments

A pre-employment medical may include:

  • Review of medical history

  • Physical examination

  • Musculoskeletal assessment

  • Vision testing

  • Hearing test (audiometry)

  • Blood pressure measurement

  • Urine testing

  • Drug and alcohol screening (if requested)

  • Spirometry (lung function testing) where required

The components of the assessment depend on the industry and job requirements.

Please note that fees for employment medicals are typically not covered by Medicare and may be payable by the employer or employee, depending on prior arrangements.

To arrange an employment medical or to discuss workplace requirements, please contact reception for further information.

Osteoporosis & Bone Health

Early detection and proactive management significantly reduce the risk of fractures and support long-term independence and quality of life.

If you would like to discuss your bone health or enquire about the next Bone Bus visit, please contact reception or book an appointment with your GP.

Osteoporosis is a common condition that causes bones to become thinner and more fragile, increasing the risk of fractures. It often develops without symptoms and may only be detected after a minor fall or injury results in a broken bone.

At Strathalbyn Medical Clinic, we are committed to supporting bone health through early identification, risk assessment, and preventative care.

Who Is at Risk?

You may be at increased risk of osteoporosis if you:

  • Are over 50 years of age

  • Are post-menopausal

  • Have a family history of osteoporosis or hip fractures

  • Have had a previous fracture from a minor fall

  • Use long-term corticosteroid medication

  • Have low body weight

  • Smoke or consume excess alcohol

Your GP can assess your individual risk factors and determine whether further investigation is appropriate.

Bone Density Testing – The Bone Bus

We are pleased to have access to the Bone Bus service, which visits our community and provides convenient on-site bone density (DEXA) scans.

A bone density scan:

  • Measures bone strength and density

  • Assesses fracture risk

  • Helps diagnose osteoporosis or osteopenia

  • Assists in monitoring response to treatment

If you are eligible under Medicare guidelines, a bone density scan may attract a rebate. Your GP will determine whether you meet the criteria for Medicare-funded testing you will need a GP referral.
